I find it hard to believe that the mayor and the police didn’t know what was going down. My suspicion is that they did know, and that they had to come up with excuses and pretend to have been in the dark about the ‘dropping of charges’.

Rahm Emmanuael is pretending to be outraged, but I posit that the charges were dropped against Smollet to create a sub-conscious connection in peoples’ minds to DOnald Trump. Notice that the the prosecutor is emphasizing that he is NOT saying Jesse Smollett is “innocent”. The Dems want people to start thinking, “Just because Mueller found no collusion and no obstruction of Justice doesn't mean Trump is innocent...”
