Charges dropped against Jussie Smollett in attack case Jussie Smollett. (Richard Shotwell / Richard Shotwell/Invision/AP) Charges have been dropped against Jussie Smollett in the latest shocking development in the “Empire” actor’s case.

His attorneys confirmed that all criminal charges were dropped Tuesday in a statement saying Smollett’s “record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him.”

“Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29," reads the statement from Tina Glandian and Patricia Brown Holmes. "He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgement.”

Smollett made an “emergency court appearance” in Chicago on Tuesday, his rep had confirmed earlier in the morning. The actor and his lawyers are slated to speak to reporters at the conclusion of the court appearance, the rep said.

Smollett had been accused of filing a false police report that claimed he was the victim of a hate-filled attack in Chicago on Jan. 29. He was arrested in February, with Chicago authorities asserting the actor orchestrated the attack on himself by paying two men to confront him because he was unhappy with his salary. >p> The arrest came following a three-week investigation into Smollett’s claims. He told police in January that he was attacked by two people who hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him and placed a rope around his neck.

Smollett was indicted by a grand jury this month on 16 counts of disorderly conduct.

Smollett had maintained he is telling the truth.

Fox removed the actor, 36, from the final two episodes of his show’s ongoing fifth season.

This is the in-kind response of the left to Trump’s exoneration.

And obviously the idea that he staged this because of a low salary is an absurd, hamfisted excuse to cover up why it was really done, as a false flag that the left could use to continue smearing Trump and the country as a whole as racist. Whoever else was behind this plot didn’t expect him to execute it in such a hamfisted way. The excuse they used to cover up the real motivation was just as clumsy and awkward as the staged event itself.
