HR has written guidelines for every scenario.
I gotta share:
I retired in 2013. (aneurysm) After all the paper work was submitted and approved my last day was set for May 31.After adding my vacation days my last workday was May 5th.
After my house had sold and the movers had already gone,my boss had driven 400 miles to collect my keys,ID,laptop and cellphone,HR decided my last day would be June 1st and my idiot boss agreed.

Now --- everyone that thinks I drove a 1400 mile commute to show up at a place where I no longer worked please pick up the heaviest item within reach and smack yourself upside the head. Idiocracy is not our future,it's here already.
