You are basically advocating “open borders” of private schools,

No, I am not. You may have misunderstood what I was saying. One of private schools’ strengths is that they can refuse admission to anyone. Public schools cannot. All I said was I saw the parents of well-behaved kids pull their kids from my public school because of what they (rightly, in my opinion) saw as out-of-control students sitting next to their children.

My point was and is, that public schools are required to take on all who live in their district (with the possible exception of kids who have been expelled from other schools). Any human between the ages of 5 or 6 and 18 (or 21 in the case of handicapped kids) must, by law, be provided a free public education. Kid can’t control himself and throws books, furniture, etc., the public school still has to take him or her and if the kid poses too great a threat, has to provide an appropriate education, no matter what the cost. And that cost has to come first. If a district has to lay off three teachers to provide for the education, so be it.

There are plenty of great public schools, but they can go south very quickly. I admire your willingness to sacrifice for your children’s benefit. It’s just too bad that the taxes you are required to pay for the public schools don’t benefit either you or your children.

My apologies. I didn’t read it well the first time.
Thank you for your well thought out comments.
