Janet Harris Smollett is Kamala'a older sister
I have never been able to make any connection to Jussie's mom - Janet Harris Smollet. Kamala does have a younger sister, Maya.
I haven't found anyone else who has made the connection either so I stopped trying

Yes, me too. Nowhere is “Janet” a sister. That name certainly is even similar to the family background, either. No way. You have Kamala and Maya, a dad and mother.
