Oh yes Bob definitely. That and what someone aptly named, the latest new thing called “recreational outrage”. Damndest thing I’ve ever seen. Keto people should just stay quiet I guess you just never know, for some reason, some people take it personally 🤔

Some carbs are necessary. My carbs come mostly from short grain brown rice, and some whole grain breads. Most calories are from protein and fats. My total cholesterol is under 140, blood sugar is controlled at about 125, liver numbers are great, and kidney numbers are decent. All this with having metastatic prostate cancer, which affects all those numbers because of the androgens deprivation drugs I take to keep it under control.

*** “ I went carnivore last October/November. Blood Pressure is again normal. No more swelling in my legs. Lost 30 lbs. My weight is now smack in the middle of the **normal** recommended range.And... A1C is again normal.

The most important is that I am no longer hungry. I often forget to eat. Imagine that! What a relief!” ***

Almost identical story for me except I’m KETO, I’m weird I like Mushrooms, Green Beans, Brussels Sprouts and the occasional Onion with my Eggs and Bacon (Bacon the Gateway Drug to KETO)
Blood Pressure dropped to normal, lost 35lbs, lost a bunch of inches, have tons of energy and I feel Great... I no longer Crave Sugar and Starch, now cravings are Steak and Eggs along with Bacon! I can trim my toenails (all of them at once without being out of breath) I can put my boots on without hooking the straps...
I am one Happy Camper! My friends think I’m weird-ed out but acknowledge what I have accomplished and think that I have some super Control over Hunger and they ask me the Secret ... shish (Kerry Gold Butter... Don’t tell anyone)
I have 31lbs to go (I want to be under 200lbs) so I Fast and that is easy to do when Not Hungry.
Best part is that Good Health is what is being accomplished, weight loss is a very welcomed Side Effect.

Thanks for the tools. I have Pub Med and access to all the med school and government medical research databases, but the volumes of excellent articles are overwhelming.

I pulled the article you referenced as well as all the references cited in the article. Each of those articles referenced other excellent articles.

I search for the meta analysis journal articles to save time. I’m interested in epilepsy as I’ve had success resolving a few cases psychologically when I encountered random cases in my research work. I work with the epigenetic influences on the biochemical processes. Same with MS.

My first interest was looking at the spiritual ramifications of fasting, specifically the psychobiotics of the gut biome and there affect on serotonin and other neurotransmitter production. This led me to the neuroscience of starvation.

I experiment on myself so I’m taking BHB ketone supplements which are really making a big positive difference.

The other area I research is the influence of the hormone gastrin secreted in the bloodstream by the G-cells in the stomach and how they trigger histamines to cause the parietal cells of the fundus to produce acid and intrinsic factor.

The human body is a wonderful interactive crossword puzzle.

The rabbit hole.

I find review articles useful. I don't always agree with them, however they have done the real work.

I have found Veech's work to be excellent.

I concur on fasting. Autophagy is a necessary metabolic function to recycle proteins from apoptosis. Three meals a day of a SAD diet has condemned the majority of Americans to a life of disease.

Best.

Fasting twice a week appears to really be effective for type two

LOL!

It's too bad we do not also inherit their apparent total lack of anxiety.

As to OJ....

I was well into my 40s when I one day curiously glanced at the nutrition data on the back of a Pepsi can and discovered that full strength soft drinks have LESS calories than orange juice!

True, but consider portion size.
At least for me, a “glass” of OJ is typically 5 or 6 ounces.

>Furthermore, I was banned from FR years ago

I’m shocked.

>If you have your health, kudos.

Thanks. For the record, I don’t do or promote keto (or paleo) although I have changed some food habits as I’m now longer 20; thus I read this thread and ended up feeling obliged to (hopefully?) help by giving you a hint as to why you were getting the reaction you’ve received.

>I chose to share my experience by writing a blog post; it turned into a quarter million words, 1000+ references and 4 volumes

Please refrain from doxing yourself; it’s not necessary and you’ll end up getting mad at people here for whatever happens with that information.

“I’m shocked.”

Shirley, you jest.

“Please refrain from doxing yourself; it’s not necessary and you’ll end up getting mad at people here for whatever happens with that information.”

ROFLMAO. Best of luck to whomever. Once published, it won’t matter anyway.

“...obliged to (hopefully?) help by giving you a hint as to why you were getting the reaction you’ve received.”

No need, but thanks. I know why and it was expected, but I’m not violating a self-imposed moratorium to elaborate (secret).

My point was that the predator animals need more than just the raw meat. They also need the digested gut contents, the inner meats, and the enzymes and microorganisms produced by the prey animals in their guts. A zoo in India was so proud of their new lion they feed it only meat and it was getting sick. Then a zoo specialist said they should feed it whole animals, like goats, and it became healthy again.

I’ve had no problem exercising while on keto (been off it for 5 months, planning on getting back on after a trip to Europe next week) except during the transition period onto keto. Typically, keto diets are 2-8% of your calories from carbs (ex fiber), 10-20% from protein and the rest from fat and fiber.

You are so right about the confusion from new finds. The finding that eggs are now all right after all the anti cholesterol fuss in the past. Now it is more about the HDL cholesterol ratio. Also, there is a lot of biochemical individuality. Since this study was done by Chinese, it is likely that the subjects were Chinese. Many years ago when I was reading up on nutrition in the books by Adelle Davis, she pointed out that some Westerners have 5 times the need for certain nutrients that most Chinese have.

Dr. Roger Williams many years ago wrote a book called “Biochemical Individuality.” When I have counseled people on their health problems I make a point of considering their national/racial past. A coworker was complaining about her vision and irritated eyes. She had tried Vitamin A to no avail. Since she was Jamaican I asked if she was lactose intolerant and she said she was. She was not drinking any milk. I suggested she try eating two cups of yogurt a day to get her Riboflavin. After a month of this she reported that all eye symptoms were gone. In my own case I seem to have a high need for Calcium. My mothers ancestors were dairy owners for centuries. Many of my father’s ancestors lived along the seacoast of Wales, or the seacoast of the US northeast. Thus there had been a low childhood mortality from lack of calcium through dairy or bones of small fish. I am now 80 and have been taking calcium/Vitamin D supplements for at least 40 years. I have lost about 1 1/2 inches in height. I can remember that my mother and my grandfather were below my nose at that age, although they started out near the same height as me. We each have to find what works best for us, but examine new information to see if it makes sense for our own situation. Incidentally, my grandfather from Wales live to be 98. He had stopped eating white flour bread in the 1930s, made his own whole grain. In his 80s and 90s he said “drink lots of water, and take long walks.”
