San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi died from a mixture of cocaine and alcohol, which caused his already-damaged heart to stop, the city medical examiner has concluded.

Kate Steinle killing: In a case that amplified the bitter national debate over immigration and particularly the role of sanctuary cities Adachi oversaw the defense of Jose Ines Garcia Zarate. The undocumented Mexican man was accused of killing 32-year-old Kate Steinle in July 2015 after San Francisco jailors did not turn him over to federal deportation agents.
So the head of San Francisco's public defenders office that got the illegal alien killer of Kate Steinle off was found dead naked in the bed of a woman other than his wife due to a cocaine overdose. Go figure.
"...accidental death...autopsy revealing cocaine, alcohol, benzodiazepines, ibuprofen, and cannabis..."
Whatever this man did or didn’t do, I just wonder why this info has to go public. It must hurt his family and friends. I think “a modicum of respect” (thanks, My Cousin Vinny!) is due to a person who has passed.
Don't worry, he'll still vote DemoRat every election.
We need Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Screening for ALL Public Employee’s, Public Servants and Judicial Officers, EVERY WEEK!!!
Maybe karma?
Musta been the Ibuprofen.
God works in mysterious ways.
"...wonder why this information must go public..."
May his children be proud of the skidmark on the Underwear Of Life that he was. ;-)
Karma? I think it’s the prosecution that needs Karmic payback. They threw the case by overcharging it as Murder 1.
Then later, they compounded it by giving that guy the mildest possible wrist slap for illegal gun possession.
Maybe karma?
YEP!!
I appreciate the sentiment of respect but I also think Sf and the world need to know what kind of people they are electing to public office- my continual hope is that enough wake up calls are sounded to where we change our voting patterns.
This man was in elected office, our Public Defender. Making life and death decisions for the public. And a drug abusing womanizer. NOT QUALIFIED and should never have held public office. Not worthy of the public trust.
Also seeing this maybe some of our other truly terrible elected officials (are any decent human beings let alone exemplary? I fear not) will be a little sobered up and try to do better.
The article states that he was a great “police watchdog” ... wonder why...
Also note he refused to go to the hospital when the symptoms showed.
Why? Because he had been using drugs WITH A POLICE INVESTIGATOR and it would’ve come out - so he couldn’t.
It’s been an open secret in San Francisco that, despite all the accolades that he received from city officials following his death, and despite their affinity with his zealous representation of illegal immigrants, etc., Adachi was a widely despised figure. No one of any influence in the city is going to cut him any slack and run interference for him or his family, hence this report and the immediate post-mortem leaks about the circumstances of his death. Why was there no love lost between him and the city powers that be? A couple reasons... (1) Adachi ran against and defeated John Burton’s daughter Kim for the public defender job. John Burton is brother of the late Phil Burton and part of the Willie Brown/Nancy Pelosi/Gavin Newsom machine. (2) Adachi was, shockingly, a genuine fiscal conservative on the issue of public employee pensions. He was constantly lobbying (even to the point of getting a local initiative on the ballot) to make city employees pay for more of their own pensions and benefits, arguing that the overly generous public pension benefits were going to be unsustainable and could bankrupt the city if the economy ever tanked.
“The article states that he was a great police watchdog ... wonder why...”
They unnecessarily embellished the comment. He was just a dog!
Catalina something-or-othe-whore?
You can start with elected politicians.
Where did you see that “Catalina” was a police investigator? The local NBC affiliate described her as a Colombian national (which, if true, might explain his drug of choice).
