I always thought that was hard to believe myself (seeing how the temper process actually happens) - even boiling water wouldn’t change the temper.
I did go look around a bit and found a few articles on it and they claim the same thing - the dishwasher detergent is corrosive. The other thing mentioned frequently was movement from the jets is likely to cause them to bang into any number of things, thus dulling or potentially chipping the edge.
