Wasn’t Seattle the original home of the first “Skid Row”?
Skid Road, actually - they used to skid logs down the hill to a sawmill in the early days. It morphed into "Skid Row" over the years to describe the crummy part of any city.

Actually, "Skid Road." Trees were dragged down the hill (where Yesler Way is now, I believe.) Many locals put up shacks because the real estate was obviously cheap.

It was called skid row because when trees are cut in the forest, they are dragged to a landing by a process known as skidding - once they used oxen, later machines to drag bundles of trees to a landing where they are turned into marketable logs.
