Worked on a 38-foot albacore boat one summer in the 60s. Was told the head was a luxury since most boats that size didn’t have one. Those poor souls had to hang their butts over the side with one hand with the toilet paper and the other clinging to the boat.
Our head was in a tiny closet, barely enough room to close the door—knees on the bulkhead. The toilet was constantly ‘flushing’ direct into the sea. When we hit a hard enough ‘bump’ the douche feature kicked in.
Ahh, the memories...
If they'd have located it on the poop deck, it would have worked out.
