Ubuntu? Sounds Kenyan.
I’ve tried a bunch of distributions. The one that seems to work the best for me in a VirtualBox VM (Windows 10 Host) is “Debian Testing,” XFCE interface.
Now, I don’t have major large data integrity or security concerns for that VM; but for day to day fooling around, I think this is a good choice.
Just one man’s experience.
It’s actually Zulu.
For light to medium complexity users that use basic MS Office Features and formats, Libre Office is a great substitute!
Now if Libre Office doesn't "work" for you, Office 365 WebApps may be for you.
11. Youre too cheap to buy even a used Mac.
#11. It works with really old hardware. Forget any support from Microsoft for such old hardware. I am running it on a 13 year old laptop. Yes, there is a 32bit distribution. You just have to look for it.
I am using it too as an internet music server using shoutcast and MIXXX on another computer.
It has the windows look and feel, too with a semi-compatible Linux version of MS Office.
And then there is the security...
Bump for later reference.
I use it on a spare laptop.
Mostly for filezilla. For whatever reason, that software flaked out on my ‘doze box.
I even went back to old installers, no fice.
Ubuntu, no problem.

Not really , I have 2 Dell Dimension C521s and every Linux Distro I try I get kernel panic so I had to suck it up and put Windows 10 32bit on them for now
Bummer.
Did you search the Internet for a solution or an explanation? You may have to patch it or find a compatible driver.
All of my mentioned computers are Dell plus a Dell Dimension 8100 that I tried it on. I installed it on a custom PC that I built many years ago, too. Lucky I guess.
When Windows 7 support expires, I will probably dual boot another PC that I have.
I love my Linux Mint which is built on Ubuntu. I am not a power user, just somebody who enjoys the freedom provided by Linux. Over the last 10 years, things have only gotten easier.
No obnoxious licensing, no corporate dictators, no hassle.
Why buy another used computer when Im setting in front of one right now?
I found a similar thing with a Panasonic ToughBook - no available video drivers. It pops up a message saying something about “Running in Software Rendering Mode”. The Virtual Machine runs, but not efficiently.
I’ve got 3 older Dell Laptops running Linux. I purchased the newest one on eBay (used) to run the latest full-version of Linux Mint. My older laps are running Zorin Lite.
I also dual-booted the wife’s old Win Vista desktop that Microsoft larded down so much it barely ran (and was no longer supported in any case). She can do the Web mail thing and run her legacy printers & scanners. Otherwise she’d have had to scrap all that hardare and buy application software to boot.
It is great to be able to reclaim old pcs that would have ended up being tossed. I wonder if, as new releases come out, that older hardware wont be supported. Crossing my fingers however I can always run an release.
