Dick Dale's "Misirlou" is a far, far cry from the original, a song about a Greek who falls in love with an Egyptian girl and vows to "take her out of her Arab land."

Thanks...the original is great...what a haunting song.

I found the lyrics (transliteration Greek to English) at "Misirlou" (Μισιρλού) (Egyptian Girl)

It says the title is a Greek pronunciation of the Turkish word "Mısırlı", which means "Egyptian girl" in Turkish.

The lyrics remind me of "Baby It's Cold Outside" in that they would drive the progs nuts - "Oh, I will kidnap you from inside Arabia."
