“1. Dont answer the phone unless its someone that you know.”
So easy yet some just can’t ignore a ringing phone. I apply this rule multiple times per day and some even take advantage of leaving a message. Very rarely is it somebody I need to call back, most are running a scam with an opening about unpaid college loans which were closed out over five years ago, long before the scammers came along with this hook.

That’s right, and it’s particularly true with older people.

One of my sisters complained constantly about spam calls. She kept answering the phone, though.

That's the policy we follow in our house, though sometimes I feel like playing with their head. If they call from an area code I recognize, I'll usually start chit-chatting about that area which either ends with (a)me catching them in a lie or (b)they are calling from California, Florida or somewhere else.
I then call them out, tell them that I will not talk to someone who has tried to deceive me and to not call here again.

That’s my 88 year old mother! She, has caller ID, and I keep telling her not to answer the phone if she doesn’t recognize the number, but she does it anyway — sigh. She says she just hangs up and doesn’t give out any info — I sure hope so.
