Oh my gosh, I love that one. Forgot all about it. My sister and I listened to that song 14,275 at least. Thanks for reminding me. I am listening now.
The revolution is definitely here.
Looking for "Something in the Air "on YouTube, I came across a lot of covers, none of which I liked, including the one by Tom Petty. There is one cover version, however, that really appeals to me, though it's completely different (live, acoustic, a little jazzy). Long after most of the band members were dead, it was recorded by Mick O'Toole with Andy ("Thunderclap") Newman himself, though I don't hear his piano. (Newman is the original piano player, and he got the name Thunderclap because of the way he banged on the piano.)
This cover speaks of a more peaceful revolution. The original had the lines:
Hand out the arms and ammoThis one says, approximately:
We're going to blast our way through here
And all the broken spirits
We got to remake all our lives
We've got to get together sooner or later
Because the moment has arrived.
Other members of the band included Pete Townshend, later of The Who, and a cute little 16-year-old guitar player named Jimmy McCulloch who later joined Wings (and then died of a heroin overdose at 26).
