I am always polite to them. Listen to their scripted spiel ask any questions that pop into my head and eventually say no. I dont get many these days since I only have a cell now and no land line. There are however taped Chinese robocalls which are very annoying and I block any of those. There is a horde of Chinese in the Toronto area so I figure that is why.
You probably have that postman who steals the mail.
Pick up and exercise your right to remain silent.
If it is someone real calling you they will say something.
If it is the scammers then they will disconnect.
This has the advantage to reducing the number of scam calls you get rather quickly.
What's an NPA 415?
Here's my solution: Require people to use common Engrish rather than resorting to acronyms when posting articles or comments here.......Then we can move on from there.
That or I dont have any credit cards
NPA is the area code.
“You cant. Most are spoofing other real numbers for caller ID and blocked calls now. “
I know. What the OP posted as a “solution” will likely not work in many cases. If you execute a call return on one of those numbers you are likely not going to reach the telemarketer.
“What are you wearing?”
“Telemarketers arent advertisingthey are selling. Big difference.”
A company looking to SELL it’s products don’t put up billboards?
A company looking to SELL it’s products don’t place ads in newspapers, magazines as well as on TV and the radio?
A company looking to SELL it’s products don’t send out advertisements in the mail?
Telemarketers are nothing but criminals that IMO are lower than the cockroach illegals who come across our border.
The number these criminal telemarketers display on your caller ID is spoofed. Meaning that the ID displays whatever number they choose to display.
These criminals do that because it makes it harder for the FCC and the FTC to track and punish them.
And by attempting a call back, you just confirmed that your number is live to the telemarketers.
I got one call from Jamaica claiming that I won the Publishers Clearing sweepstakes. That I would receive a new F-150, a new washer and dryer, and one million dollars. But I had to give them a check for $35k.
I said OK, and had them going for about 30 min. I told them if they delivered the prizes to me in person that I’ll give them the $35k in cash so they didn’t have to worry about cashing a check.
I gave them the following address:
935 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20535
And told them to see the receptionist in the lobby. Well they must have looked up the address because I heard someone in the background trying to get the other guy off the line and after a short pause, the guy I was talking to came back and said “F*ck you” and hung up.
I only have a cell phone at home.
I don’t answer numbers that I don’t recognize. If you happen to be like a former co-worker acquaintance of mine and have blocked your number appearing on caller ID, well, I’m not answering. If it’s important leave a message and I’ll get back to you in short order.
The only real annoyance are the CRA (Canadian IRS equivalent) scammers that keep calling and leaving messages which I then have to go into the voicemail system to delete.
I meant DIRECT sales, they call to get you to buy from THEM, advertisers want you to desire their product, and go buy it someplace.
.
There is still no legitimate reason for telemarketers to exist.
Ha ha ha ha haaa, love your techniques.
My son explained to me how they can get software to do the spoofs. Many are doing the phone calls completely by an app.
I tried that but the phone numbers are all fake...
I'm getting lots of calls now from an area code in Georgia......
I've got Do Not Disturb activated on my phone so it only rings when the call is from someone in my phone contact list......
