Most of NYC's public schools are very old buildings. A lot of the science equipment, unless it was tossed, is nearly as ancient. You wouldn't believe what you can find in lab closets--stuff that could be 50 years old or more. They used to make anatomical models out of plaster, which were then painted, until they started to make them of plastic. A lot of anatomical models in the school I taught in were missing parts of their anatomy, with little bite marks on them. Apparently, rodents liked plaster.
I remember having a paper lunch sack containing my lunch on my desk. I stepped away for a couple of minutes to wash my hands. When I returned, the paper sack was rustling. A mouse decided to beat me to my sandwich, which then became his.
The best one was, I was teaching a laboratory class when suddenly, a mouse ran down the long lab bench, eliciting screams from students. I sternly called for attention, and asked the students to look at their lab sheets. "Can someone read the list of 'Materials Used?" I asked. One student raised her hand and complied. "Okay, is 'mouse' anywhere on that list?" I queried. "No!" the students said in chorus. "Okay, so we are not using mice today in our experiment," I replied, "So leave it alone!"
Be back later...gotta go down to the Rat-O-Mat and get supper.
:D

I was going with a possum, but yours is better.
Someone needs to try and stuff him into the slot to see if this can be replicated.
