The whole semiconductor industry is tough from a environmental standpoint. Many of these environmentalists if they have any technical background at all it might be that of a computer programmer. Which means they often have little to no physical science background and thus don’t appreciate that a lot of “physical things with consequences to mitigate” had to happen before they got that machine to bang on. Theory and simulation can be fun but until its checked by reality (data - physical measurements!) its arm waving.
