I moved so many times in my life, cities and rural areas as well that's it's been 12 years now of living in a small city type area never any traffic snarls, lots of shopping at the top of the hill centrally located...country is less than three miles out...and everything I want or need is close at hand....I love it! If I want to see a major city it's 45 minutes south...but don't.

Well if you want to get all spiritual, it means there is no false self (actually any self is false, but that's a long story)

But a person with 'no self' would actually be very lively at times, very quiet at times, just like nature.

"No personality" in this article means 'he has a personality, and I call it 'no personality' ... just like you might say a soccer team has 'no talent' when really it has a talent for sucking.

But in general, a good goal in life is to at the very least know that your personality is not self, it's just a winning formula you've learned to navigate the earth and keep your skin bag alive. That doesn't mean it's not real.

It just means, if you build a house with a hammer, don't try to move into the hammer when you're done building. Move into the house! This means: don't think of yourself as your set of habits you call your 'personality' and then identify with it - calling it 'me' 'I' 'mine'. This is a big lie and nobody can at the same time believe that and walk into his True Home.

Ok I have no real point except that set off a few thoughts.

It used to be not good if all the boys could say about you was “she has a great personality”.

I had heard he’s supposed to be on the spectrum, meaning he’s slightly autistic. I worked with a special ed teacher who told me that and she loved the show because of it. He seems more of a savant to me who never learned to socialize. Anyway, I love that show.

Pearl Bailey.

“...and think of all the books
about du Barry’s looks,
What was it made her the toast of Pa-ree?
She had a well-developed....
personality.”

I don’t read the article but I’d chalk it up to fear. Because I spend time with special needs people and people with intellectual disabilities and even lots of those, even mynson who doesn’t speak, have great personalities, senses of humor, etc.

If you’ve made yourself super bland it’s because you are afraid to be yourself. Period. Even the intellectually disabled can have great individual personalities. A personality is a soul connecting to others.

We purposefully moved to our small town for our son and ourselves. Minneapolis got to be a bit too much, especially once he started school. Kumbaya and all that. Plus illegals peeing in our alley garden and me throwing the beer bottles back in the car at them. Husband thought I was a little stressed. Hah!

Sorrrrrry ladeeee!

I guess I’m scary at 5’2” and 100 pounds soaking wet.

That was the end of that situation. Glad I could scare the piss out of them though. Victory!

Now I watch birds. :)

Good on you for getting out! I grew up in a rural community smaller than where I am now but this is just perfect..and the community climate overall is very much like I grew up in. I love that people walk the sidewalks and the community comes out for various in town parades etc....

I’m close enough to the downtown to walk there if I choose and far enough outside not to have the clanging and buzz of the downtown.

I have noted a few Indians here but other than this when muslims have come they don’t stay long at all. They are pretty much ignored.

My Wife got me hooked on it about six months ago.

It’s one of only two PBS Shows I ever watch, the other being Antiques Roadshow.

Just saw an interview with the Actor that plays Bert on the show. He said in real life Martin Clunes loves Dogs and is very warm and personable. Great Actor, LOL...

The Truth About People Who Have No Personality...

“People with no personality are those who don’t bombard other people with their preferences and thoughts like little opinion drones. And their image suffers for it.”

Like many other things in life, it is - damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. It is rather sad if you think about it.

Sort of reminds me of my mother, she never said a bad thing about anybody and was a wonderful mother, who grew up dirt poor and picking cotton, went through the great depression and WWII with 13 brothers and sisters and made it work. There’s nothing wrong with the personality trait described above. What’s wrong it’s how other people handle it... through ridicule and gossip.

loud, crude and obnoxious appears to be what this study defines as “having a good personality”.

I might be a bit antisocial, but I certainly have a personality. Most people see me one way until they get to know me and are astonished how wrong they were in their original assumptions about me. other people are just jerks ;)

Seriously though, I prefer to keep things close to the vest in public, it save a lot of hassles that way. At work I will call out people doing the wrong thing or trying to circumvent policy and the like (I work for a major medical device manufacturer). Not many people care for that, especially the types that are climbing the management ladder (including engineers). Some get it, many don’t.
