Dont know about you but I worry about my asbestos exposure. Time in the navy and power plants. Ive had two people with similar histories that have died from asbestos exposure. Sorry about the lung issues. We did things that might have been bad but you have to make a living. A shot to help prevent disease is handy. Wish there was one for smoke and asbestos exposure. The exposure to diseases we had mostly gotten rid of are back with illegals and no one has really acknowledged it, to bad. Be safe.
If you are not having problems I wouldn't worry about it. Asbestos is not really that much worse than exposure to other types of dust. Any type of dust is bad for people. There is a very strong correlation between smoking and people who have serious problems with asbestos or other dusts. I did a lot of sandblasting with normal sand before I joined the fire department. Silicosis is every bit as serious as Asbestosis... there are not the deep pockets associated so it doesn't get hyped. You can get silicosis just by living in a very dusty area with sandy soils.
During the drought that caused the dust bowl thousands of people died from exposure to dust. When I was kid we used to burrow around in the loose grass hay in the barn and cough up all sorts of dirt.
I have been around asbestos quite a bit as well, but I do not believe that either the sandblasting or working around asbestos is the cause of my sensitive lungs. It could be heredity and chemical exposures may also have been a factor.
