Nature lovers (and patriots) take note: Bald Eagle raptor project. Eggs about to hatch!

DISCLAIMER: I'm a newb...please forgive any etiquette oversights.

These next few days are a fortunate time to look at the real-time hatch and growth of wild Bald Eagles. Time frame to fledge is only 5 months! The kids grow up so fast... Now check this out...the nest is located near a fish spawning-hatchery so you can very often see live fish brought to the nest (by the parents of course) to feed the young. Awesome stuff for school age children's report projects. >>The nest is huge...over 1000 lbs!

Hope you enjoy..

Thank you for sharing. I was watching the Berry College eaglets hatch a couple weeks ago, and then was very, very sad to see that both died within a few days. That site also has nest cams, but not expecting any more eggs, now, until January.

Only if the teacher talks about how global climate change is killing the eagles and pesticides aren't helping either.

It looks like these eggs have a while to go yet. I think they are 35 days approx. from being laid to hatching. BUT THANKS

We could not tell, they were barely a few days old. It almost seemed like the mom might have stepped on the younger one/first to die. It was very rainy for a few days there, so maybe they just were weak to begin with, and things did not go well. It was very sad.

It is fascinating to watch the parent eagles, though. Even my cat got interested in it! ;)

Per Google:

35 days

Eagle eggs hatch one to several days apart depending on when they were laid. Eggs hatch consistently after 35 days of incubation. About 4 days before hatching the chick develops an egg tooth at the top of its bill.

"Our Milpitas Eagles" Facebook group. Unfortunately, you can't see much unless you get admitted to the group.

No nest cam, but fantastic photographs by local amateur photographers. The eagles nested several years ago in a redwood tree next to an elementary school in Milpitas, California. This is close to Silicon Valley and just up the road is the Tesla manufacturing plant. It's amazing to see eagles returning to such high populated areas.

In December, Mrs. POF and I took the "Eagle Cruise" on Lake Coeur d'Alene. There were about 400 eagles on the north shore of the lake where the Kokanee Salmon are plentiful for food. It was the most amazing thing to see eagles everywhere - in the air, diving for food, on the beaches, in the trees, on pilings, on rocks. If you are ever in the area in December, this cruise is highly recommended.

I see them quite often in my backyard flying over the river. We located/observed the nests from the river.

So set yourself up with a reminder to start watching them right around 3/28 and forward. The Georgia/Berry College ones seemed to be a few days later than expected (longer incubation than 35 days).

MAN! I sure would love to have an omelette!

JUST KIDDING!

Thanks for the post.

Lots of Bald and Golden eagles in my neighborhood...

Last week the neighbor told my Wife a story:

There is a new fox in the neighborhood and it caught a rabbit just outside of our neighbors window. Clearly the fox was looking forward to a good meal when it looked up at the Golden eagle swooping down...the fox dropped the rabbit and beat tracks outta there and the eagle enjoyed the rabbit.

It’s been unseasonably cold this last month and the critters are getting rough with each other...

They aren't endangered or rare, but they are pretty.

No it’s 35-39 days from when laid. I’ve been watching Decorah and Decorah North for several years. Here are the sites:

Decorah: https://explore.org/livecams/raptor-resource-project/decorah-eagles
