Burying him is what makes me wonder about that.
I never met Christians parents who assigned Bible verses to their kids for memorization and then punished them for not doing it.
We all taught our kids the Bible and Scripture and their minds absorb just fine by hearing over and over. Forced memorization regimes are not necessary. Regularly reading the word will do it.
FWIW, my kids memorized a lot of Scripture, but we NEVER forced it.
