I was a bit slow to trust my gut... I guess having a son in uniform who was deployed to the ME during most of W's term kept me in the bleachers. For me, it was NoName followed by RMoney that finally made me change my voter registration to "no party" and my attitude to "trust but verify." Paul Ryan (the cheap labor express' favorite fluffer) and Cornyn/McConnell (NRSC's Tweedledirt and Tweedledirtier) altered that to "don't trust at all."
My current thinking is roughly as follows:
1. I trust about 1/3 of the Republicans to do the right thing, 1/3 to do the wrong thing and remaining 1/3 will let themselves be led by the nose depending on circumstances.
2. 99% of the Democrats will do the wrong thing, and the remaining 1% will occasionally get cold feet from an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, or a fragment of underdone potato.
