The Senate could even refuse to hear it.

This is what should happen. There is a procedure in civil litigation called a demurrer, or a motion to dismiss the complaint. The motion basically says that your complaint is invalid, it fails to state a proper claim under the law. Someone in the Senate should introduce a resolution that says that the impeachment sent over by the House fails to even state a proper grounds for impeachment, that there is no "high crimes or misdemeanors" of the type intended by the Founders that are alleged by the Democrats from the House. What they have is fake offense built upon a house of deception. With a majority vote, the House impeachment gets sent back without ever being taken up, a slap in the face to partisan gamesmanship with important matters of state. Of course, what would be better would be to smack the dems so hard that they give up on their little temper tantrum. For that to happen, there need to be some indictments, some declasses, some truth-telling, sufficient to make the loons slink back into the shadows, knowing they've lost. 15 indicted Representatives could do it, starting with Ocrazio for stealing campaign money, and Shifty for leaking classified info. Warner, too, on the Senate side, and maybe Feinswine for what she did to Kavanaugh. Does Trump have the people in place to get that done? We don't know. If Barr is another derp, Trump stands alone for the next two years.

If they waste everyone’s time with a Senate trial, it will backfire and help Trump more then it hurts him.

However I can see them doing because they are desperate to normalize Slick & the history of his regime. Also I think Hellary thinks it helps her.
