There was one confusing thing about the story. She says she went to use the cards, and found that they were already empty.

THEN, it says she scratched off the codes to enter them.

How did she attempt to use them without scratching off the code?

You only need the code for on line, telephonic and mail order purchases. In person purchases only require you to swipe the card.

Thats right. When i waited on the service line at store, they were able to tell me what store the card was used at and zero balance. I had the original purchase receipt. Never again. I recommend using the Wal-Mart cash transfers. I didn’t know it at the time. My kid in Fla had no food for xmas.
