It’s all about maximizing the impact of illegal alien voting.

The EC prevents a state like California from choosing to import millions of illegals and having those illegal votes change the outcome of a federal election.

Yes. Hilary Clinton would be President today if the massive 2016 over vote for her in California had been part of a national popular vote election scheme.

There is very little chance of the Electral College being removed from the Constitution. In the meantime, if Blue states want to apportion their electoral college votes while Red states maintain the status quo, that is a net benefit to Republicans. (Look at all the red or leaning red counties in the article below that there are in the Blue states. Those are guaranteed Dem electoral votes that would now go to the Rep candidate. Just make the apportionment at the county, not the state, level.
