I know, and I do not know how to wake up our fellow Freepers on this.
I am a Conservative, but that does not make me blind to corporations acting in ways that they see as their self-interest but are at the same time not in our interest, and worse against our interests, all of us.
I do believe in a lot of self-regulation and also see the regulatory state as one of the greatly bad venues for “lawmaking” that has gotten out of the reach of representative government.
Yet, I think because we Conservatives believe in free markets and Capitalism, in their essentials, too many Conservatives have attitudes, sometimes, that companies can do no wrong. They can, and as much as we hate regulation that has gotten too broad, too deep, and too extensive, I am NOT a believer that we shouldn’t regulate anything.
Capitalism, in its most workable form, needs regulation. However, government needs to be careful about how much regulation it imposes before the economy starts losing productivity.
It's a fine line, and most people (on both sides of the fence) just keep pushing harder and harder so that it cannot work at its optimum configuration.
