My wife and I are both 65. We have no health insurance. We also have two genuine miraculous healings by God. That doesn’t include the ones that can not be proven to be miracles. We also haven’t done Television since 1997. We don’t see ads pointing out all the millions of diseases we could contract at any moment. We prefer to live life joyously, one day at a time and put it in the Lord’s control.

This thread reminds me of what a therapist told me once. She said that one of the first things people in the medical profession are taught is to not become hypochondriacs, worrying that all the ailments they are going to learn about just may be festering in their own body, waiting to make a grand entrance into their life.

What happens, happens. And life truly is very short. It only lasts one day. Others may follow, or may not. Others may be more prosperous, or less. Others may be less painful, or more. But in the end, every single thing that happens to us is something that teaches. Everything we have or do is something that either enhances or detracts from our relationship with our creator, and our fellow man.

Today looks to be a good day. We’ll see what we can learn from it. :)

Well, as a Christian woman, I understand your stance, but as a healthcare provider, I find it foolish.

I have patients who come into our office at least once weekly with shingles. Many we treat appropriately on the same day the rash breaks out, but they continue to suffer significant pain for six months or longer, usually leading to more medication. For many, the rash is highly painful and also unsightly and takes weeks or longer to heal. Had one woman with it all over her right breast. Talk about upsetting for this poor lady. Another 90 year old came in on another day ...a little frail 90 year old suffering in this type of pain is a sad sight.

The shots are easy, and relatively inexpensive as compared to a hospital stay.

God also gives us the wisdom to do what is right to take care of ourselves, with the resources we have available at the time. The Shingrix vaccine is available now and very effective — I advise it to anyone at risk. I’ve had to put several patients on gabapentin for weeks to months after they had shingles due to post-rash pain.

We’re all bags of pathogens just waiting for one to break ranks. Or maybe not.

The same mindset is doubly present in psychological training. We all have a little bit of what’s being discussed and the tendency to latch onto most everything is always there. That’s why psychologists are so neurotic, I think. It’s because they ignore the real maladies they have, thinking they are fantasies.
