CHICAGO -- As actor Jussie Smollett is facing a trashed career and possibly three years in prison, his likely legal play is clear to ABC7 Chicago legal analyst Gil Soffer.
"In any criminal case, if you as a defendant are looking at a mountain of evidence and you don't have a viable defense, there's almost no reason to go to trial," said Soffer, a former Chicago federal prosecutor and partner at Katten Law. "Cut your losses. You enter a plea deal."
The scrum Smollett faced leaving Cook County's jail complex would just be the beginning of the unpleasantness if the case went to court.

Soon to be poor Jussie... And the really bad news is Walmart is phasing out its greeters and there’s really nothing else he’s qualified for. Second or third rate acting might still be a possibility on some straight to video B movies if he does the thing on his knees for a Gay producer I guess.

Whatever sentence “real” perpetrators of his fantasy “hate” crime would have received would be sufficient.

I think Jussie Smollett should pay a huge fine for his cruel hoax, reimburse the Chicago police department and then Robin Roberts can re-interview him.
The Democrat pols, some running as candidates for President, could have Jussie campaign with them. After all, they supported his tale of racial hate.
Somebody will write the check for him.
He had better pay for ever penny of money spent on his hoax. I trust he finds himself penniless.
He needs to be destroyed and in public so all can see there are consequences for hoaxes.
