An 11-year-old Suitland, Maryland, girl has been charged with first-degree child abuse after police said she assaulted a 1-year-old boy left alone in her care and he died from his injuries several days later. Prince Georges County police identified the boy as Paxton Davis, of Southeast D.C. Police said the baby had been left last weekend with the girls mother, who was a family friend of the babys mother. When the girls mom went to run an errand the next morning, she left the 11-year-old alone at home with the baby boy, police said. When other family members returned home, they found the baby unresponsive and called 911. The baby, who was rushed to the hospital, died four days later on Feb. 28. The girl has admitted to officers that she assaulted the baby

Eleven is too young to be baby sitting alone.
I was babysitting at 11. 3 kids around the corner. A different family was 3 kids up on the mountain. I never hurt any of them.
I have yet to meet an 11 year old I would trust to watch anyone but herself for a few hours.
Im glad you were raised right that you could do that, then.
Who the hell lets an 11 year old watch their infant?
And just by the fact you said, up on the mountain I am willing to bet it was in a long ago time, when 16 was about the age of the average bride.
Thank you, ozaukeemom-!
I was ten years old when I first started babysitting. And we just KNEW you didn’t hit kids, or yell at them.
It’s been fifty two years and I can STILL recall the instructions my mother gave to me upon me going next door to baby sit.
As 1/3 of a set of triplets, we practically formed our own babysitting club!
My mom kept the books for us; it taught us to save money and assume responsibility for extra things our parents were not able to afford that normally would be treats.
It NEVER crossed our minds to hurt another child/baby.
There’s no question, the 11 yr old child has been abused, or exposed to violent situations, which is abuse. Anger over her experiences, she finally had a vulnerable enough, small victim to practice on what happened tio her.
I grew up in Vermont, where there are a lot of places “up on the mountain”. lol But, yes, it was 40 odd years ago. Not many 16 year old brides, really.
Depending on the mountains, there were cabins...or chalets. My folks lived in the cabin part of the state. Over near North Troy. Although there are more chalets over there now.
Sad. Maybe the girl is a “child of rage.”
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
It was a gorgeous home. Very much like a chalet and isolated. Now, I am amazed I was mature enough to take care of 3 kids in the middle of nowhere. I would love to have that house now. It was incredible. I just touched base with the one of the children on FB. She remembered me! lol
when I was a kid it was common for young girls around 10 to watch younger kids and infants. now at 10 it would only be a very short time and usually some one older was near by.... 10-11 year old that kills a baby is the type who would do it at an older age too. most 10-11 year old kids can be trusted with a baby, according to my sister from about 9 months old till about 3 years old she would drag me every where because it was social cred with all the other seven year old girls to have a real baby to play with. I was the only baby in a neighborhood with a unusual amount of 7-9 year old girls in the neighborhood.
Awful! Did you call the police?
A lot of kind-hearted people on this thread aren't immediately clued in by the words "Suitland", "Prince Georges County" or "Southeast D.C." But now that I've written only this, new readers will be.
