Heres the best source I used to have... may not work today...
Back in 83, my company sent me to Montana.
I ate ate the university student union most days.
One day when checking out, I saw a pre-64 silver half dollar in the cash drawer. I said, can you give me the half dollar in my change?
I left with a silver half dollar.
About a month later, same thing.
Then it occurred to me the end of the month made lots of people scrape to pay - including the coins theyd set aside.
Probably true today.
Q told me to post this.
Don't know if you noticed. Most folks don't.
Driving through Wyoming on your way to Montana is pretty boring (unless it starts to snow) and right about the time you get past Sheridan you may notice odd reflections in your windshield and maybe even the clock in your vehicle flickering.
No problem. You're just going through a time warp.
The actual end of the warp is right at the state border (if you look at that Welcome to Montana sign you might even notice it billow in the wind...only the wind's not doin' it) and about the time you hit the expansion joint there you've just turned your calendar back somewhere around twenty years.
Welcome to 1999, y'all.
Mind the instant headache you'll get on the way back.
/jk.....or maybe not
My dad had a coin “collection”.
He basically saved all the silver coins he could get his hands on.
He’d go to vegas each winter to work and would come back with a spit load of silver dollars, back when slots still took and gave them.
He also saved wheat, steelies and Indian Head pennies.
He also saved silver certificates.
When he died I got the “collection”. I split it with my sister. I kept the pennies and gave her the rest with a recommendation to put ‘em in a sock and let ‘em just sit until she gets old.
She was an “end of the monther”.
I still got the pennies.
Hindsight...20-20.
More likely: ... including the coins an older family member had set aside.
