LOS ANGELES -- A woman charged in the brutal attack on a 92-year-old grandfather out walking in Willowbrook was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday.

Laquisha Jones, 30, of Los Angeles was charged with felony elder abuse in December.

Witnesses said Jones pummeled Rodolfo Rodriguez with a brick. He suffered a shattered jaw and broken ribs.

Jones had a prior conviction for making criminal threats and had been on probation when she attacked Rodriguez.

Prosecutors said there was evidence in the case that showed it was a hate crime.

“Laquisha”—that says it all, maybe except for the spelling. Can one scholarly address the issue of strange names and their spelling without being called the “r” word? No.

When I was a mere sprout of a lad, 10 or 11 or so, I’d ride the Pacific Electric from Long Beach to Los Angeles alone. This was in the 50s. One stop was Willowbrook. It was black back then, but I never felt any danger. But then the women weren’t named Laquisha either. It was a different world.

True. But that is because the names are generated using another 'r' word - randomness.

Remember that video? The woman caught a flying chair like it was a ping-pong ball.

Whoa!! A “Laquisha” can actually be charged with a hate crime. That must be a first.

“Except for the spelling”?

Were you expecting an apostrophe to clinch it? Like “La’quisha.”

Looks like she should be “La’Squisha”

The 92-year-old man who was beaten with a brick in Willowbrook says he does not resent his attacker and wishes God’s forgiveness upon her.

Well, whatever floats your boat or breaks your jaw, I guess.
