When I was growing up in NJ, barbecue consisted of holding a 3x3 bunk of szalonna (bacon) over a wood fire and putting the drippings on good the bread. Cut off and add the burnt pieces, sliced onion, tomato and cucumber. Fit for a king.
Sounds real good! A BLT without the lettuce, but with onions and cuke.
