Reading through the list of Oscar winners, I realize that I have not watched a single one of these movies. Not one. Not only not the winners, but none of the nominees. Am I alone in this?
There are none so blind...Or gutless.
I really enjoyed Roma. The only one I have seen out of all of them. I used to really enjoy many films AND the Oscars back in the day. That’s long since over for me. I get TCM via Sling and I’m quite content.
Using the term, " vaginal semiology" instead of 'lower front hole semiology'?
Nope.
What movies are on the list? FWIW I probably have not watched any only because we always wait until movies are free on Amazon or Netflix.
I just watched LA Confidential for the first time. Other than seeing too many women’s naked breasts, it was a very good movie.
I watched it. Only heard one crack about Trump and he wasn’t mentioned by name. Once they brought Mega Streisand out and she said the word “truth”, I turned it off.
Seriously, you have three, count them three awards left and to introduce them you start off with Babs.
There is always something to watch on Netflix (or Amazon Prime or even YouTube). Over the weekend, my wife and I saw "Aviator" - the Howard Hughes movie. Movie came out 15 years ago but it was decent. Glad I didn't pay full price at the theater but definitely a nice movie to watch at home.
That's the thing about movies. You can see them 10, 20 even 50 years later. No need to see them soon as they come out. A good movie will always be a good movie. I'm still discovering movies from the 1960s (and earlier).
Also, home theater systems are getting more and more like the real thing. Not sure how much longer going to a theater will be a viable money-making business for the cinema owners. I've gone a few times but generally it is an unpleasant experience for various reasons. Much rather see a movie in my own home.
Alone? Ha! You’re in an elite group of people with a good sense of what to stay away from! I haven’t given these vile people one penny since I was in my teens - and that was a LONG time ago.
Same here. I don’t bother.
I saw Bohemian Rhapsody and thats it. Otherwise we watch Adam Sandler, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Schindlers List etc.
Well, at least I’ve heard of seven of them. Enough to be actively repelled by a few, not enough to be interested in any.
I’ll do you one better. I don’t think I’ve seen a single Oscar nominated movie in over 20 years.
I can’t remember the last movie I’ve watched it’s been that long. And I don’t see any promo that might change my mind. Just found out recently that our local movie theater closed down. No drive-in theaters either.
The tax credits really frost my a$$.
I haven’t been to a movie theater in about 7 years.
I plan on not giving them the time of day this year too!
I half- wanted to see "Vice". Might get it if/when it comes to the local library. Heard that it's like "A Few Good Men"....you wind up rooting for the person who is supposed to be the bad guy. :-)
Otherwise, for 2019? Nada. Missed all of the "Best Picture" nominees.
2018, I saw "Dunkirk" and "Darkest Hour". Dunkirk was unremarkable other than the effects in the theater - would have lost even more on the TV screen. Darkest Hour was fun to watch Gary Oldman get lost in the Churchill role.
Dunno about the rest. Used to go to the movies all the time, started to slack off a few years back, and mostly cut it out after Trump was elected. I see no point in giving money and time to people who hate me.
I was going to post the same thing. The only movie I saw in a theater in 2018 was “They Shall Not Gore Old.”
“The Oscars is one of the most highly sought-out live events in the industry. Historically, we have never guaranteed Oscars, and this year is no different, Doug Hochstadt, Revenue and Yield Management for Disney Advertising Sales, said in a statement provided to Deadline.”
You’re a liar, Doug. We’ve seen your company’s values on display. We no longer trust you to do the right thing.
That’s what I call a non-denial denial.
