However, allowing of the error to remain amounts to acceptance of the error, doesn’t it?

Depends on the context. If you want to have FRiends, state your case and that's all that's required; no need to argue forcefully over something that will not be printed (forcing a costly reprint) and viewed by millions. Online is not known for accuracy when it doesn't really matter. It's more like colonial America, where old records and letters reveal that people spelled all kinds of ways, as long as they got their point across.
