I was just up at Crystal River springs two weeks ago to swim with the manatees no less. I wonder if she’s bummed because she went on Sat, 9 Feb rather than 10 Feb. We went 10 Feb and it was terrific. The manatees don’t mind people at all and we even had one playing with us for over an hour. If they don’t like you they move off and there are plenty of blocked off areas in the springs for them to rest with underwater demarcations preventing divers from going.
9 Feb. the guides said there was one manatee in the springs due to the warm weather. 10 Feb the springs had plenty of them due to the front.
From the article it appears the author believes the canal houses run over manatees. The whole area is full of no wake zones -as is most of their areas in FL.
