If Smollett is charged with filing a false police report, then he can assert Trump Derangement Syndrome as a defense. After all, his fear of all things Trump has so upset his world that he could not help but concoct a false hate crime story featuring Trump supporters. Even though Trump's supporters didn't commit the crime of assault, we all know they could have if given a chance. The defense is just an offshoot of the typical irresistible impulse/insanity defense.
