Years ago a friend of mine was working the counter at a local pizza place. A “youth” walked and without a word shot him in the face. He was dead before he hit the ground.
There was about $75 in the register.
Another time a friend of mine who ran one of those coin shops had a guy walk in and, once again, opened fire without saying a word. Thankfully that friend was carrying his .357 and killed the bad guy. But not before taking 2 rounds himself, one of which pierced his brachial artery. It took 20 units of blood to save his life.
Turns out the dead perp was suspected in 3 other robberies of coin shops all with the exact same MO. Walk in, shoot the proprietor dead, ransack the store, and leave. One was in Michigan and the other in Florida.
It happens. Believe me, it happens.

This MO lessons the chances an armed clerk can respond. The crooks maintain the element of surprise. Walk in and shoot him dead before he can even process what's happening.
