There would be an increase but likely not much as one might expect. The Germans saved da erf by punishing vehicle owners directly with an engine size tax. This helps to keep underpowered mini vehicles on the road and effectively removes many older vehicles from the second hand market.
Euros either use lighter duty trucks/vans or larger commercial vehicles. Roads and parking are much different in Europe, not to mention much higher fuel prices.
“So this, from the article, is just BS?
German car companies were responsible for more than 113,000 jobs at some 300 factories in the United States and were the biggest exporters of cars in the country, it said.”
You are aware that the tariffs do not effect vehicles made in the US even if they ar owned by German corporations right?
BMW quality is fading and their prices are rising.
I guess having lazy socialist workers isn’t such a good idea.
IMPORTS to US; not exports from US?!!!
I misread the article.
My error.
Most BMW SUVs are made in South Carolina and exported around the world.
Got it. I was reading imports as exports. My bad.
Bingo!!
I was told in no uncertain terms by a Brit, that first the EU would bury our economy and then the EU Army would destroy us militarily.
Merkel is hell-bent on creating an EU Army and she is importing all of her soldiers from the middle east. She has no choice as there hasn’t been a man born in Europe in the last 60 years or so.
You mean those in South Carolina that build the X3, BMW’s most popular single model?
I don’t like their trend away from V8s and bigger engines towards turbocharged four-bangers and straight sixes. (Especially since they were known for their normally-aspirated engines versus turbocharging.)
You guys know that freightliner is German, right? Biggest manufacturer of class 8 trucks in USA. Rams are mostly imported now. Once the chicken tax is repealed, US manufacturers will have to seriously step up if they want to compete.
GMC and Chevrolet trucks combined have outsold the Ford F-150 in the past. For most of the last few years though the F series has outsold both combined models. GM truck sales sagged a bit in the past few years while Ram rose. Last few years the F series has sold nearly 1,000,000 trucks each year.
Freightliner has been part of Daimler AG since 1981, yes. The irony is that Mercedes-Benz has been a truck maker for decades in its own right as well.
I can only speak for my area, but the majority of trucks and tractor-trailers I see on the highway happen to be Volvos.
