He would have had similar results from a hunting bow and a field head arrow. Its all about the shape of the projectile. A .223 rifle round or a field point arrow from a >60# will penetrate by parting the the Kevlar fibers. The story is somewhat vague and doesn't tell what the rating was or who the manufacturer was.
