Flew to Hawaii on a stretch DC-8. Flew home on a 747. The contrast was stunning. The difference was like a school bus compared to an RV.
I only flew once on a DC-8 (Air Jamaica). It was in 1981 and the DC-8 was already on its last legs. There were so few people on the plane the captain asked us to move to the front of the aircraft to distribute the weight.
Other flights on jumbo aircraft (DC-10s, L1011s and 747s) were comparable with the huge seating area. However, the best experience was on British Air as they provided great service even in tourist class. (They called “tourist” something else but can’t remember what it was ;o)
