FULL TITLE: Dog called Donald Trump is shot dead by his owner's neighbor - but police insist the killing was NOT politically motivated
A Minnesota sheriff says a dog named Donald Trump wasn't shot and killed over a political rivalry, despite false claims circulating on social media that have spurred 'violent threats' against some county residents.
The Jackson County Sheriff's office concluded the person who shot Donald Trump the dog Sunday was 'legally protecting their livestock' on private property.
The shooter has not been identified.
The dog's owner, Randal Thom, 58, is an avid supporter of the president and has been featured in dozens of news stories for frequenting his rallies as well as disrupting those held by Democratic candidates.
Some social media users claimed a neighbor, who they believed to be a Democrat, intentionally killed Thom's dog.
Neighbors have lodged 14 complaints about Thom's dogs running loose, killing animals and attacking a person, according to the sheriff.
Thom was convicted on a petty misdemeanor of 'dogs and cats at large' in 2015, according to Minnesota court records.

By the way FReepers already knew of this story on Bookface. The Husky owner had trouble with this neighbor in the past. His husky had killed the neighobor's goats BUT the husky owner paid for them! The husky owner then put up higher fences but the snow storms knocked them down and "Donald Trump" got out. The poor husky was shot 4 times and left to die in a field, the neighbor did not contact the owner or police.
Anything is fair game against a Trump supporter.
It sounds like the Owner and his dog were both GUILTY!
As soon as I saw the phrase that he was ‘protecting his livestock’, I began to see the tragedy in a possibly different light.
Huskies are beautiful, smart and notorious for escaping their confines to roam freely. Some dogs of any breed will fall into instinctive predator behavior patterns and cannot be broken of it.
They can only be held back. It’s very sad, but if you have a dog, people don’t have to accept that dog coming onto their property. No, they do not.
The only difference was after the dog was killed, the farmer would deliver the pet to the owner with an apology. The apology was sincere, but it was kind of "Sorry I shot your dog, it was chasing the cows." The owner usually replied, "Well, I guess it had to be done. Thanks for bringing Rover back to me."
I never said the owner or husky was innocent. I did say the owner did try and the owner did pay for damages in the past and would have again. He also built a bigger fence but mother nature had her say in the matter. To me that is very responsible. The owner tried.
I mean if the man is trying could not the neighbor have worked with him???
This whole thing just looks bad more so the name of the dog. I know who the neighbor is too even though the DM has not published it. His name is already out there and his life is going to be hell over this.
but I thought some dogs chased cows! Don’t sheep dogs do that to “round them up”?
Unfortunately once a canine kills livestock it will continue to do so when an opportunity presents itself.
The story doesn't say, but "paying for damages" is something that the law and most people get wrong all the time.
For instance, your dog kills my goat. If a similar goat goes for $60 at the local farmer's market, most people think that if they write a check for $60 they are clear.
Wait a minute there. I took me 1.5 hours to dispose of the goat, 8 hours to track down the dog owner, and it is going to take 3 hours with my livestock trailer to go pick up and return a goat to my pasture. So there is an additional 12.5 hours of my time that I have not been compensated.
What is that worth? Good question. The last time I worked for someone else I was paid $100/hour, but that was 20 years ago. So put 20 years of inflation on top of $1250 and pay me that. Plus the mileage for my truck and livestock trailer.
When your dog comes on my land and kills my livestock, you don't get to just pay for the livestock and leave. And you don't get to tell me my time is worth $0, or even $30/hour.
This is why dogs get shot...

Doesn’t sound like it had anything to do with the dogs name. The dog had previously killed his livestock and should be shot on sight.

Jason Hak: The shooter has a metal target set up 600 yards and donald was right in his line of shooting.. he has a shooting table by his driveway.. his barn is all closed up with no animals outside,. this was a pure evil kill. Donald Trump the dog did not even go onto his estate property, ie the house barn area. I have pictures of the property and where the dog was shot if anyone wants to.see them.
Oddly enough, drawing from personal experience, a local teacher was prosecuted for lying in wait for his neighbor’s dogs to cross his line to sniff at the bait he’d put out for them, and he cheerfully shot them, as they did.
I only know this because we went to his house to buy a laser printer and he bragged about doing so, though why he’d tell us that out of thin air eludes me.
This guy’s dog was shot *on his property* and the people that know him say the LEO has a long standing grudge against him.
I’m not buying the story up above.

The above sentence tells the whole story.
What responsible pet owner accumulates 14 (fourteen!!!) complaints about their dog doing the same thing over and over and over without resolving it fully? Yes, the owned tried, but that wasn’t near enough. Clearly, the dog did not belong in that area, and could never be reliably confined by this owner.
This dog needed to wander in order to be happy. He would have been howling in bored misery being tied up all the time.
Sometimes, a pet is simply not suited for a particular circumstance. I’ve had to think in such terms before too.
I had the chance to get a healthy Amazon Parrot for a very low price. Owner was leaving the country. But I already know how LOUD those birds can be, and how much constant stimulation or interaction they require. Some are very needy. Excessively needy pets or people annoy me, even cats!
I wouldn’t dare move him in this small Apartment Complex. I would be asking for trouble.
I couldn’t keep the black-out cover on his cage all day. That would be cruel. So I had to pass that big opportunity by.
The whole dog name story is for inflammatory value. This is a case of neighbors who were at odds. Whether politics had anything to do with it is not indicated - because one person had a dog (or apparently from some reports, multiple) who had a history of killing the neighbor’s livestock. Fence or no fence (supposedly strengthened but taken out by snow storm) - a pet owner has a responsibility to keep their pets retrained to their own property - otherwise, they are responsible for any damage or trouble they may cause - and in the country - a dog chasing or threatening MY pets, family, or livestock will be dealt with appropriately.
I know the owner did because I got the facebook story on this. This story is now 24+ hours old.
In fact am not even sure this is the same dog that killed the man’s goats several years ago.
This dog “Donald Trump” is not very old. You see this man breeds huskies and has many of them. The dog that killed the goats may have been another dog.

Exactly! IS why I say there is more to this!
I mean I know huskies and the damage they can do I am a Husky mom!
But If this man paid for the damage his husky did in the past then what is the problem? Okay it killed your goat but you got a new one. No biggy right?
This is something personal.
When politics and the dog's name are removed from the story, it looks a lot different.
The MSM is not mentioning a lot of things. Like how long the dog was left to suffer after it was shot. Or the owners claims that his fence fell down. The truth may lay somewhere in the middle, but the MSM wants to nail this in the butt before any notion gets out that political reasons may have played any role. The guy who shot the dog needs to make a very believable case that this exact dog was actually in the process of attacking his farm animals when the dog was shot.
If the story is accurate this was a justifiable shoot of the dog. Most sad this is. My objection to the story is making it political. If it was a bad dog it needed killing. Its name is irrelevant.
I have three dogs and two cats. They live mostly in harmony together with the exception of my Siamese. She knows the dogs will not hurt her but is just a bitch if they encroach on her territory. My other cat will sleep right next to the dogs. They like each other.
