I've always wondered. If the debate coach who told him that this move was a "can't miss". Is he still looking for a job?

From memory, I think it was do or die at that point. The 'lockbox' fiasco during the first debate was skewered on
that week's SNL.
I remember reading that Gore's aides made him watch that skit. Guess he thought walking over in the next debate would make him seem more like John Wayne or something. Like you said, after the nod, he just stood there while Bush kept talking.
