too bad many of the old school dems don’t bother following politics, they will still show up in Nov and press the “D’ buttons and go off in their merry way.

Just keep talking to those old school Democrats. You never know when you get through to one of them. It does happen. Remember, many of them are just not very well informed; they were brought up to believe Republicans are wicked and are to blame for everything that is wrong with the country. So you just have to find a way to get them to see that this is not true, that it is the democrats who are mostly to blame. (Although with McConnell, Ryan, et al, the GOP certainly is to blame for some of the current mess.)
