I remember them hyping Renee Richards back then. A guy tennis player saying he was a woman. I think he actually had “new” surgery for those days. Probably just breast implants.
Just like today I think it's a way for mediocre male athletes to compete to win.

I believe that it was full gender reassignment surgery... but of course, the Left quickly dropped Renee Richards as a pioneer and icon when he (born Richard Raskin) publicly stated that he regretted getting the surgery. About half of all who get it also have that regret.
