So you want government efectively outlawing your perfectly fine working vehicle?

Its not about getting out of tune clunk junkers off the streets.

Even here in America sh1tty cars 20 years old that everyone knows are not taken care of are not emissions tested, but my vehicle that is 6 years old and compter controlled and adjusted and adaptive must be tested for emissions.

Cmon be smarter than that. Its about control.

Heck, my cars are over 25 years old, so I certainly don’t want them outlawed.

My posting, instead, was aimed at the people who want to feel like they’re doing something, but then get mad as hell when they find out it will take a bit of sacrifice on their part. Among other things, they make it hard to even have policies, because they don’t even know what the hell they really want.

I get that but i do not believe this situation is that.

These people were just minding their business upkeeping and driving their cars and now bureaucrat regulators want to outlaw them. In fact these cars most likely arent polluting any more than any other diesels on the road, its about arbitrary control over people.

“Europe will be forged in crises, and will be the sum of the solutions adopted for those crises.”

That’s the attitude that you end up like Ceausescu, Monsieur Monnet.

The euro-fools think they can buy people off with some crumbs if it gets to a crisis, like Ceausescu tried to do in his last speech.

European Spring !

Maybe 2019 will be a year of revolution like 1848.

I follow - but in this case we only know that they’re NOW upset, after they are told that the ‘destruction of the world’ is their fault, and now they have to fork over some big bucks, along with giving up some really nice cars.

Similar to France in many ways - they vote for people who tell them that sacrifices will have to be made to ‘save the planet’, then they hold their noses up at us and make fun of us for electing Trump, who pretty much promises that any sacrifices demanded on Americans will have to be well-justified...and then THEY (the Europeans) get all upset because their left-wing leaders, that THEY ELECTED, start acting like, well, left-wing leaders - and tell them that they need to bend over and take it.

In other words, if you’re not ready to suck it in, then don’t vote left-wing - and I’m sure many, if not most, of those protesting did vote left-wing...happens all the time.

They’ve been at this for decades. It may look chaotic from the outside, but one of the chief tenets of Sun Tzu’s “Art Of War” is to “feign disorder”. They’re far better situated than Ceausescu was. Some current leaders may fall by the wayside, but one will likely rise out of the chaos; don’t be surprised if that happens.

Saw an early 70s Buick LeSabre on the road today; brown paint, four door, but didn’t get to ascertain which motor it had. Haven’t seen a real car like that in a while.

Factor in this is Europe/Germany.

These are some of the most gung-ho “obey government/obey authority” people on the planet.

You know what government is trying to shove on them right here, is very very bad and egregious if they have finally provoked such a reaction from these people.

Nice, if it’s the OEM engine, then it can take an EMP without a problem!

Exactly - and the Germans in particular. And now, with that, they are CORNERED - they either vote for the ‘mainstream’ (i.e., Socialist) candidates or they’re voting for what are called ‘Fascist’ candidates, even though the vast majority of those ‘Fascist’ candidates are anything but Fascists (although a few are, which is why how they tarnish everyone in opposition).

How much would it cost to bring over one of these older diesels from Germany?

German built diesels are indestructible if maintained properly.

I have a ‘98 diesel Jetta 5 speed with almost 300 thousand miles on it and still gets me to where I need to with no problem. Was 20 below the other day, still cranked and started.

And I always thought that GERMANS CARED about the environment. ...I guess until it cost them some money.

No different than a LOT of folks on FR who claim to espouse conservatism and self reliance while never donating to FR (and probably other causes)...or those who want Trump to keep his promises but who also bitch when the short term effects affect them too...or the concern trolls who constantly jump on any rumor and give the bad rumors more credence that they give President Trump

Then again, there's the notion that one can equate a country's government's agenda with what the subjects actually want....the only thing those willing to be subjects to the government want is "free stuff" handily paid for by others...in any country.

Using their own ideology concerning carbon footprints, how big is the carbon footprint to produce all the new replacement cars and process the scraped cars going to be?

Bet it’s much bigger than to just leave it alone. How can they not see that the gain is far less than the cost? Yeah... it’s not about the environment at all.

Agree with most, but the ‘concern’ regarding Trump does have some degree of reality - like Trump offering DACA Amnesty in exchange for the wall in 2017 - that wasn’t our imagination, it was Trump willing to give up more and more, in exchange for nothing. Thankfully the Democrats rejected everything, but who says they will keep doing that.

And then the crap with the judges last week was also real - Trump’s Administration PURPOSELY left out the two 9th Circuit judges from the list - which certainly ‘concerned’ me, and then we hear that his administration was trying to cut a deal with Democrats to keep the court Left-Wing - that WORRIED many of us.

Now maybe Trump didn’t know what his kids or staff was up to, but it is HIS JOB to be on top of this crap and if he is not, it is our job to SCREAM AT HIM to get his attention.

Years ago when I was stationed in Germany, many soldiers brought home Diesel Mercedes, BMW’s and VWs. I bet many stationed there now could get a fantastic bargain. The service used to ship your car home for free and a second car for a reasonable fee. I imagine if you knew someone stationed there you could work out a deal with them.
