You're underestimating the power of the platform. Much of what becomes newsworthy starts on twitter. They highlight particular stories that fit their agenda via moments or hashtags, work up the SJW blue-haireds to create a mob, and then every major media outlet covers it.

I'm half Jewish. Naturally I don't enjoy Nazis. That doesn't mean I believe a platform specifically designed to support free speech should deny free speech to groups they don't like. If people there are saying to gas Jews, that is a threat and is not protected speech.
