“Hud” was filmed near Amarillo, and a neighbor of mine, who was a celebrity on the local CBS station, got a part in the film. As “Hud” opens, a store keeper is sweeping glass off the sidewalk. When asked what happened, he said he “had Hud last night.” The storekeeper was my neighbor, Warren Anderson.
As for Paul Newman, one of my favorite movies is “Slapshot.”
So many memorable lines.
Cool Hand Luke was non-toxic masculinity?
A few parking meters don’t think so...
I would say rapist like bill clinton is a toxic male.
Didn’t know that was his favorite, but I will say he was a rare liberal who put his money where his mouth went! I guess you can call Slap Shot a cult classic...it was timely as the flailing expanded NHL figured it could fill seats by having brawls. Most notables were Dave “Tiger” Williams (Maple Leafs), Dave Schultz (Flyers), Bob Probert (Red Wings), Marty McSorley (Penguins) and the guy announcing on NHL Tonite, I believe, Mike Milbury. Milbury was the first player to go into the stands at an NHL game in Madison Sq. Garden when the Rangers fans threw things at the bruins players. Someone can fact check me but I believe that’s true!
Todays Hollywood celebrities are NOT the movie stars of yesteryear. They are boring delusional dilettantes. Both the male and female Hollywood stars were fascinating and gorgeous. Now they are so stupid they cant even decide on a host for the Oscars!
Papillion is probably his best.
I like a good revenge movie, so Nevada Smith ranks pretty high on my list of favorite McQueen films.
The best Paul Newman quote was the response to the question of why he was faithful to his wife, when so many women wanted to be with him: “Why go out for hamburger, when I have steak at home?”
LOL
Well said!
I miss old America! Good read!
Hawks would hate todays famine actors, both male and female!
Is there such a thing as toxic femininity in the liberal lexicon fanciful storyline or is that phrase exclusively reserved for women with STDs
I don’t know if I would rate “The Sand Pebbles” as the greatest ever but it sure was one of my favorites.
That BAR really made me want to shoot one.
I had always wanted to fire a BAR ... ever since PFC Kirby in "Combat" ...
That's why I volunteered to carry the M60 during my three years as an infantryman ...
I agree. I also love “The Wind and The Lion” and “The Old Man and The Sea.” Great old movies.
Author didn’t see ‘Hud’ either apparently.
Mr. Whitty should watch that movie to find out what a real man is. It doesn't show up on tv/cable often, but when it does, it's worth your time.
That scene where he gave a roundhouse to Charlotte Rampling after realizing what a rat she was, was unforgettable.
Or the scene in The Verdict where he punches out the woman who betrayed him.
Hombre is available to rent for four dollars on Amazon Prime, Vudu, Google Play, and Youtube.
