The not-quite-live performance comes in at the low end of the decade's trend of televised musicals. Fox's staging of Rent underperformed Sunday night, drawing ratings at the bottom of the list of TV musicals aired in recent years.
Sunday's performance which consisted largely of pre-filmed footage from Saturday's dress rehearsal after star Brennin Hunt broke his foot near the end of the run-through posted a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.42 million viewers over its three-hour running time. Those are the smallest numbers for any of the four musicals Fox has aired since 2016.

    A sung-through musical such as
The Phantom of the Opera is structurally similar to an opera.
Otherwise, yes, they're different things. Both good.

That sounds like a Bialystock and Bloom show.

The Pro Bowl may have been a factor also.

I didn't even know it was on. I was binge-watching
77 Sunset Strip on the Decades Channel all weekend.

Tom Bergeron was terrible. One night, he was making a pitch for socialized medicine on a damn home video comedy show! Id say maybe its worth checking out again now that hes gone, but I doubt his replacement would be much better.

That's because NBC PC'd Peter Pan. They had new songs created and deleted Peter's number with Tiger Lily. Besides, Alison Williams wasn't good casting. Remember, when the put Carrie Underwood in The Sound of Music Live, they surrounded her with Broadway people.

I see Alfonso Ribeiro is the new host. Well, I like that guy, so I guess its worth a look.

The actor who played Roger injured his foot. That’s why portions were pre-recorded. Those portions were from Saturday night’s performance.

The low production costs keep it on the air; content is essentially free—they pay $15,000 for the top three videos each week (everyone else gets a t-shirt if their clip is used on the air). The largest expense—no kidding—is the host’s salary. Tom Bergeron makes $150,000 an episode on “Dancing With the Stars,” (average of 28 shows a year), and about half that for AFV. Alfonso Ribeiro probably makes $60-$75,000 an episode; that’s a darn good check, but a fraction of what you’d pay an actor in a successful, scripted series.
BTW, Bergeron used to pick up a second check as “senior producer” of AFV, and the series’ EP (Vin di Bona) also doubles as the director, so he makes a little extra income well. ABC doesn’t care, as long as enough people tune in to watch cat videos and guys getting hit in the crotch.

That guy looks like Dan Aykroyd. There's a good reason why that guy looks like Dan Aykroyd. That's because it is Dan Aykroyd. The line is from this scene in the movie Trading Places:

Yes, I think his tragic death was one of the reasons why the show was so acclaimed.

I caught part of one of my favorite musicals, “Bye Bye Birdie” the other night. Ann-Margaret was to die for back then!

    Networks had plans for
The Musica Man ive and
Bye, Bye Birdie Live, but they got scrapped because they weren't :contemporary" enough. Perhaps they should go back to those.
How about My Fair Lady Live? That could be great if done right.
