Since you are close by the event, was it reported whether he had hypothermia after two days outdoors? How was he dressed? I have not heard any reports confirming whether he had hypothermia.

Also, wasn’t he found by someone called it in ... rather than try to render aid ... the caller saying the boy could be found in a thicket? Who was the caller?

I invite anyone who doesn't believe this really happened to check out the local newspaper The Jacksonville Daily News. There was never any evidence that he had been abducted which is why they did not issue an Amber Alert. He was dressed for playing outdoors, but he did have mild hypothermia when he was found and was treated at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern. I actually worked in the lab there for five years in the early eighties and I can testify to the excellence of that facility. It has 350 beds, so it is not just a small county hospital.

A woman walking her dog heard a child crying and alerted authorities, She did not tell them he was in a thicket. That is where the searchers found him. This is a very rural area with thick woods. The road on which his grandmother lives is not even paved. Local, state, and federal law enforcement, as well as members of the military from nearby Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base were all involved in the search for Casey. I find it extremely unlikely that all of these groups could have made such an error in judgement. If so, you can rest assured that the story will be corrected!
