The idea appears from time to time in Christian theology.
Related to my specific cite above, I'd suspect it was a strong issue during the Council of Nicaea, since the Creed that resulted explicitly rejects the Arianism idea that Christ was created by God.
Those adhering to Arianism were considered to espouse heresy, and by doing do, condemning their followers to Hell.
